Our Hobbies by Edgewater College satellite class

Hi! Edgewater Satellite has the opportunity to learn new hobbies this year. In our movie, we showcase the different hobbies that we could do not only to enjoy in our free time but also to socialise with our friends and family. We are so proud of ourselves that this year we are able to learn four different hobbies. Enjoy the Edgewater movie!

This year, we included hobbies as part of our curriculum not only to teach the students the skills but also to encourage them to use their free time in a more productive way. They also learn that if they improve their craft they can actually make money out of it in the future. Our students take turns every term to learn a new hobby which they really enjoy. Then at the end of the term, we give them a Certificate of Completion and their finished project to show to their whanau which makes them even prouder of their accomplishments. A big THANK YOU for all the Edgewater satellite staff and Jiten, the woodwork teacher for sharing their skills to our students and being so patient with each one of them. Lastly, we would like to acknowledge the whole class, students and staff, for making this movie possible.

PDS Making NZ Birds Chocolate by Panmure District satellite class

In Panmure District satellite class, we are good at making learning fun! So we made New Zealand bird chocolates and then ate them all up!

***

The PDS students enjoyed expanding their knowledge about NZ native birds in term 2 – learning each bird’s name, observing their features, and listening to their sounds etc. Each one of us made amazing effort to show all we’ve learnt about the birds along with our cooking, art, and fine motor skills altogether in this NZ bird chocolate activity.

Knowing our directions! by Stonefields satellite class

At Stonefields Hub 4, we were talking about what we wanted to be when we grew up and all those jobs involved knowing our directions which we did not know! We practised our directions and then lived out our dream jobs!

Let’s Be Kind by Howick College satellite class

At Howick College satellite we often have outside providers who come in to offer our students wonderful opportunities. Our class was fortunate to have an expert music teacher. He encouraged the students to create a song that meant something to them. They created “Let’s be kind”. You will get to see our students at the start of the movie and then the song begins. We hope you enjoy it!

We Are All Connected Through Sport by Sommerville PE Teacher Tina

We Are All Connected Through Sport is a film that dives into the world of sport at Sommerville School. It follows the journey of the students at Sommerville School as they learn and play different games, attend sporting events, connect with others, and be the best they can be. With unyielding determination and dedication, the students at Sommerville School push the boundaries of sport and show the world we can play, we can work as a team and we can all connect through sport. The students take on challenges and overcome them every day. Sports connects us, it brings us together and we are all amazing. At Sommerville School, we believe that all students have the ability to be connected and try new things. We pride ourselves in adapting our curriculum to suit the needs of our students. We create fun and interactive sports sessions to allow our learners to connect, try new things, and challenge themselves. Sport is at the heart and soul of every person and we believe that through sport we can be the best we can be.

Book Week by Anchorage Park satellite class

This year we learnt about birds, we dressed up for the book character parade, and we enjoyed reading with all our friends. Spending time with our mainstream peers was the best, so don’t miss the opportunity to watch our movie. Anchorage Park School and Sommerville, Kia hono being connected!

Our learners at Anchorage Park satellite delved into the annual Book Week event with the theme #Hats off to Reading. This is a time for us to come together with our host school and celebrate our love of Literacy. We immersed ourselves in a myriad of fabulous literacy activities starting off with a Book character parade. A mystery reader visited our class each day to read their favourite book. We were fortunate to have a reading session with the Pakuranga librarians. Then we hosted our mainstream peers at our satellite for shared reading, drama, arts & crafts to create NZ birds from our storybook, and a puppet show. Some of our students also went into other classes to partake in reading activities alongside their mainstream peers. We even launched our very own character drawing competition. It was a great week of fun learning and connecting.
